Looking for a way to meet local people in Nagoya while practicing English and Japanese?
Welcome to Nagoya English Learning Community, a casual English conversation group held around the Sakae and TV Tower area in central Nagoya.
It is a friendly place where Japanese locals and international visitors can enjoy conversation, exchange cultures, and make new friends in Nagoya, Aichi, Mie, and Gifu.
What We Do
Our activities are usually held on weekend mornings in Sakae.
We meet either at a cafe or in an open free-space area near the TV Tower and Hisaya-odori Park.
The main activity is English conversation.
We usually do:
- Free conversation in English
- Discussion using English news articles or interesting topics
- Cultural exchange between locals and international participants
After the English session, we also have around 30 minutes of casual Japanese conversation time.
This is especially popular with visitors who want to practice Japanese and talk with local people naturally.
Who Joins?
The community is mainly designed for Japanese English learners, but international guests are always welcome.
Participants include:
- Local Japanese people from Nagoya and nearby areas
- International residents living in Japan
- Travelers visiting Nagoya
In the past, visitors from different countries have joined our activities, including travelers from Russia and Australia, as well as an American resident living in Nagoya.
Many local members know a lot about Nagoya, local food, sightseeing spots, cafes, festivals, and hidden places around Aichi, Mie, and Gifu.

How to Join

Participation Fee
The participation fee is:
- 500 yen
- Plus your own cafe drink if we use a cafe
The fee is mainly used for website maintenance and community operation costs.
